Rochester Nordic Ski Team Registration

Happy Halloween!

Want to send a quick note about the Rochester Nordic Ski Team.  I usually talk a little more about it before now...but this year has gone by and I didn't get to it yet!

(Quick interruption of myself...if you already know that your child needs to be registered for skiing, skip to the bottom of this post!)

If you were at the All-City awards, you may remember retired Century coach Darald Bothun talking about the RNST.  It is an all-city team that gives the kids an opportunity to learn how to XC skate ski.  This is an excellent opportunity to have a winter sport if your child doesn't already have one!  Many XC runners go on to XC ski during the winter.  It is a great community that also allows them to meet kids that they run against during the XC running season.  The coaches are all volunteer and really just want the kids to learn to love skiing as much as they do.

It is not a highly competitive atmosphere (unless you want it to be), meeting Mon, Tues, and Thurs each week.  The cost is reasonable:  public school registration is $95 plus an optional $35 ski rental fee for 1st year skiers (you have to buy your own boots).

Honestly, I was frustrated when my oldest child chose this activity his eighth grade year...and it has turned out to be one of the best opportunities all of my children have had during high school!  (sometimes kids know best!)

If you have more questions, please contact me at 507-269-1855/krsorenson6@gmail.com.

Registration is Monday night, November 2 at 7:00 pm at Century High School.  Online registration ahead of time is recommended.  Here is how to get there:
Go to the website:  www.rasc-mn.org
Click on the left tab:  Rochester Nordic Ski Team.  Scroll down to RNST 2015-2016 Brochure.  Download this and read it/have the kids read it.  Some different things this year.

Now click on the left tab:  Information on RASC>Join RNST.  Now you should be able to register the kids.  They will each need their own email address.  Remember that they are the "member" (not you)

Hope to see you at Registration on Monday night!!  :)  Kristin

Section Wrap Up

Good evening!!
Here is your MSHSL Section 1AA Report:
Chilly conditions out at Owatonna today for this last race (for most) of the season...fantastic showing by the Rochester runners!
First of all, warmest congratulations to the Mayo runners who are going on to State:
#2 in Section:  Chad Couser
#11 in Section:  Spencer Moore
#6 in Section:  Kendall Pfrimmer
Boost these runners up on your shoulders (mentally) and carry them around to celebrate this fantastic accomplishment!  Hurray!  Hurray!  Hurray!

Fan bus:  Is there a possibility of a fan bus to take students up to state to cheer on these runners?  Yes!  How do we make this happen?  Send the students in to the Athletic Office to start asking about a fan bus.  If there is enough interest, that is what will make it happen.  Have them start asking!  Our runners would love to have their teammates and classmates at the race to cheer them on!
State XC Meet is Saturday, November 7 in Northfield, MN.  Girls race is at 10:00 am and Boys race is at 11:00 am.

Congratulations to other Rochester runners:  #1 in Section Emma Christensen (JM), #9 in Section Aly Welch (Century), #25 in Section Savannah Vold (Mayo), #1 in Section Seth Massot (Century), #9 in Section Antonion Judson Red-Elk (Century),  #17 in Section Josh Larson (Century), #18 in Section Mark Lucivansky (Century), #23 in Section Zeke Green (Century), #29 in Section Jack Mallman (Mayo), #32 in Section Andrew Gathje (Mayo), #34 in Section Jacob Anglin, #39 Travis Turner

Well done, Mayo Runners!  Great season!!

I will post tomorrow information about registering for the Rochester Nordic Ski Team this winter!!

All-City Pictures, Pasta Feed, Subway, and Sections

Pictures from the All-City Meet, compliments of Jon Peterson:  https://picasaweb.google.com/107965039773023631721/MayoCrossCountryAllCityMeetOct132015?authuser=0&authkey=Gv1sRgCKOEzNDf5YSAPw&feat=directlink

Also, please consider signing up to help out with this week's Pasta Feed:  http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0b45aaac2aa6f49-mayo

And lastly, please let me know by Monday if you want your Subway order pulled.  Just FYI, I have been sitting on the checks until now and they will go to Subway this week-so if you have been wondering about getting your check cashed, it should be happening soon!

Hope to see a great group of parents in Owatonna this week supporting the teams at Sections.  The top 2 team finishers will go to State and the top 8 individual finishers (minus those who place from the top 2 teams) will go to State.  So hopefully we will have some participants!  Big week!!

Conference Results!

This is so super-exciting!!
I know I am a day late here but I wanted to be sure that I got all the information before I posted so forgive me for that!  And thanks to Marianne Couser for getting me the results when I asked :).

So here it is:
Girls JV and Varsity both took 5th place
Boys JV took 8th
Boys Varsity took 2nd!!!!

All Conference Girls:
Kendall Pfrimmer (7th place)

All Conference Honorable Mention Girls:
Savannah Vold (18th place)

All Conference Boys:
Chad Couser (1st place!!!!!!!!!)
Spencer Moore (7th place)

All Conference Honorable Mention Boys:
Andrew Gathje (18th place)
Jack Mallmann (21st place)
Jacob Anglin (26th place)
Travis Turner (32nd place)

Now I need to repeat...this is a fantastic showing by the Mayo Running program!  If this is the first year that you have watched Cross Country, you may not realize how difficult it is to place the way these athletes have done.  This is so impressive and what fun to see them earn this kind of respect.  Of note is the side comment that I am pretty sure it is an accurate statement to say that all of these athletes have been running year-round.  It has made a huge difference for them and their ability to be competitive!
If your child is interested in a more year-round workout, please contact Greg Couser at greg@productivementality.com.  He will get your athlete on the email list to connect with the group.

Well done, Mayo Cross Country Athletes!!  Hurray!!!

Side note:  Mayo Boys Soccer won Sections tonight and are going to State next week!  Congrats to them as well-a very exciting time of year!

Lost and Found...

Tristan Moore (grade7, Willow) came home from the City meet with somebody else's gray dry fit "Mayo Spartans" shirt, youth extra large. We'd like to trade for his youth large size. Email is Moore.katherine@mayo.edu

Email correction

Sorry about this!  Nancy Werning's email address is nkwerning@gmail.com (not what I originally posted).  Please let her know if you have the missing sweatpants!  Thanks!

All-City Wrapup

Happy MEA!
I hope you are doing something fun this weekend.  We are headed to Kansas as we I write this to meet the Pennington family for a couple of days' visit in Lawrence.  I mention this since Nell (and Crosby) are former Mayo runners so many of you know them.  We will say hello from the team!

A warm Congratulations to our top finishers from the All-City meet.  Chad Couser with a fantastic 2nd place finish and Spencer Moore finishing a strong 5th.  On the girls' side, Kendall Pfrimmer with an equally fantastic 2nd place finish and Savannah Vold with a solid 4th place!  Unfortunately not enough to take home the team trophies with Century sweeping the team awards...

Housekeeping from the meet:  Missing after All City Meet -- Black Mayo Sweatpants size adult Medium with "M" on left thigh  -- these are the kind sold at the Spartan Shack, not the cross country team pants.  We think someone probably confused these pants for theirs.  Please contact Andrew/Nancy Werning at nkwerning@charter.net if you found these!

For next week:  Let me know by Sunday morning if you need to cancel your order for Big 9 Conference on Tuesday.  Hard to believe we are already at Big 9!  The season sure does go fast!

Pasta feed can still use some help:  http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0b45aaac2aa6f49-mayo/4759998

All-City Pasta Feed

Hi everybody!
Mankato and Owatonna
It appears that I have missed a couple of opportunities to highlight some runner accomplishments!  (Since Elizabeth has been injured, I haven't been at the races and I'm missing stuff!)
Congratulations to Chad Couser who won both the Owatonna and the Mankato meets!  If you are new to Cross Country, you may not realize what a big deal it is to win a race the size of these events.  Unlike soccer, volleyball, and football who have two teams play each other and one team wins, in XC there are so many players out there, Mayo will often go years between having an individual who can win a race like Owatonna.  So smile for Chad today as you send him happy thoughts and well wishes for the fantastic season that he is having!
Along the same lines, congratulations to Spencer Moore who took 6th place overall and Kendall Pfrimmer who took 5th place at Owatonna.  Again, these are amazing accomplishments and well-deserved for athletes who are working so hard!

All-City Pasta Feed and Meet
All-City Pasta Feed for the athletes is Monday, October 12 at John Marshall High School.
Here are some details:

Hope to see you all at the All-City meet on Tuesday at Century High School!  This is a wonderful celebration of the runners in Rochester and a fun opportunity for them to see how they all stack up against each other :).  It is a fast meet with only two races:  one for the girls and one for the boys. Following the high school races, the KLM 1-mile race for younger kids is a great time for any siblings to come out and stretch their legs!  Great fun!

The forecast for Tuesday looks great with a high of 66 degrees but be warned!  Bring a sweatshirt!  It is always beautiful when we get there but gets cold by the time we are finished!

I will be at the All-City whether Elizabeth is running or not, so see you there!  Looking forward to seeing everyone!

Last chance for Nike Cross Regionals 2015.

We have 11 boys and and 9 girls signed up for Nike Cross Regionals thus far.  It's fun group!  I am turning in the singlet order on Monday.  So there is still limited time if you or someone you know wants to sign up.  Please see previous post for details and   ***sign up here by Monday, October 12.***

Good luck at All-City this week!

Greg Couser

Pasta Feed...and flour...

Good Saturday morning!
Looking ahead to this week...pasta feed on Wednesday will be at the Colby home.  Sign up to help bring something here:  Pasta Feed Signup

Also, on a totally random MHS thought...I don't know if you saw the request from the FACS class for supplies for the kitchen (it was a Peachjar flyer)...but flour is on sale at HyVee this week for 99 cents!  If you happen to be there, grab a bag or two and drop it off at the Main Office!

Have a great weekend!

Nike Cross Regionals 2015--need to plan now and RSVP by Friday 10/9

Hi, all,

Last year we took 14 boys and 7 girls to Nike Cross Regionals (a.k.a., NXN or NXR) in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.  This is a 5k race and fun-filled time after the high school cross country season is over.  This event is for ANY LEVEL RUNNER, and participants do not have to be members of the Cross Country team.  Siblings/friends are welcome.

Preliminary details:
Who:  Must be in grades 8-12 to sign up as a team.  (Those younger and older can sign up on their own at the Nike site for the open race.)
What:  Nike Cross Regionals (Heartland) 5K race
When:  November 14-15, 2015 (Leaving Saturday around 9 a.m. and returning late afternoon on Sunday)
Where:  Sioux Falls, SD
Why:  It’s a blast!

We need drivers and parents to make this happen. We will do our best to accommodate everyone even if the parents are not coming, but it's definitely fun for all.  There is an open race in which anyone (including parents) can run.

Expected/estimated costs:
Race:  $150 per team or $30 per individual.  Therefore individual cost is $30 or less
Accommodations:  In the range of $150 plus tax for a room for 4.  If we are able to put 4 runners in each room, cost per runner is approximately $40.  Obviously this is different if parents have a room.  We are planning to stay at the hotel at this link if you are coming with us and want to make reservations now.

Team Singlet:  Probably around $25.  Working on a fluorescent green singlet with black writing with matching arm sleeves (included).  This is the rate-limiting step and is why time is of the essence.
Gas Money:  Drivers may ask for a small contribution to help with gas.
Food Money:  Saturday lunch on the road and dinner in Sioux Falls; Sunday light breakfast (e.g., Panera) and lunch likely in Sioux Falls, snacks on the way home.

I need information from you in order to register each student (required by Nike website) and organize communication:

If you have any questions, please contact me at greg@productivementality.com .  I will send more information later to those who register.

Thanks!

Greg Couser

Thanks, Jon!!

Also...I'm off a week-next week is Owatonna...so obviously the All-City Pasta Feed will not be next Monday...look for a Pasta Feed on Wednesday and the All-City is the following week!  Sorry for the confusion :)

This week...

Saturday was a beautiful day for a XC meet!  Here are some photos from Maya Khanna's dad!
Winona XC Meet

Mankato is coming up fast!  Tuesday already...we have never been there before so I have no words of advice to share beyond the usual:  get release form signed to excuse them from the bus, stop at a Kwik Trip before you arrive at the meet site, allow extra time to walk from the parking lot to the site.

After Mankato I will post information about the All-City Pasta Feed next Monday!  This is a very cool event hosted by JM the day before the All-City meet!  Everyone is expected to bring a dish to pass.  Pre-ordered KLM t-shirts will be available for pick up here as well as at the meet.

Have a great week!

Winona and a couple of other random thoughts

Hello All!

Hope that everyone is enjoying the fun of Homecoming week!

Subway:  if you want to make changes to your Subway order, please contact me by text or email by Thursday morning at 10:00.  Once the orders are turned in, I can't make any more changes so let me know right away!

Travel Release Form:  I have forgotten to mention this earlier.  If you are planning to transport your athlete to a meet instead of them riding the bus, they need to have this approved through the Activities Office.  The form is available online at www.mayospartans.org>Forms (tab on the left). Students MUST be transported by an adult.  Be sure to turn in the form a couple of days before the meet.

Winona:  A super-fun course!  Very hilly with lots of switch backs.  Really fun to watch!  Spectators don't have to go far...but they do have to go UP!!  Wear the right kind of shoes for this!  Also...again allow for some time to walk from the parking lot to the field.  There are also a lot of stairs between the parking lot and the field so be prepared for that!

Parade:  A huge thank-you to Jay Maier, father of a couple of our athletes, for his contribution of the parade vehicle this year!  And speaking of the parade, don't forget to pick up some large bags of candy for the athletes to throw out to the spectators!

Parade part 2:  Parade starts at 4:00 at the Fairgrounds and runs down 16th Street to the high school.  Weather looks like it will be great!

All-City T-Shirts:  In case you don't have the order form, here is a copy of one.  A facsimile will be fine for ordering in case that is easier than trying to print this.  See previous post regarding turning in by Thursday to Coach Brandt.

Have a great rest of the week!  Hope to see you at the parade!

Rosemount Pictures and a couple other Random Thoughts

Thank you to Jon Peterson for taking these pictures from the Rosemount Meet:

Also...regarding the Mayo Invitational...confirmed with Mr. Whitney on Friday that the word "postponed" is not really accurate..."cancelled" would be more appropriate :). It will not be rescheduled.

And...a huge thank you to Zadeo's Pizza for their support on Thursday.  They brought in extra people to help provide our order and were super-flexible as we navigated the supply/demand...and then did not charge us for pizzas that they had already cooked but we didn't want anymore due to the storm...

And...thank you to everyone who took leftover concessions off my hands!  :)

Mayo Invite...

Well!  That was interesting!!

Concessions:  There is a lot to tackle in this post but I'm going to start with the foremost thing on my mind...leftover snacks that we weren't able to sell in the Concession Stand!
I have the following that I would love to be able to share around:
4 cases of Gatorade (28 bottles each case):  $12/each
2 cases of water (35 bottles each case):  $5/each
1 case of Kelloggs Fruit Snacks (36 packages):  $12
1 case Starburst (36 packages):  $22
1 case Gardettos (36 packages):  $12
2 cases Famous Amos cookies (42 packages each):  $14/each
1 Skinny Pop popcorn (20 packages):  $10

If there is any chance you would be willing to take any of this off my hands, I would be very grateful!  Think Halloween...or classroom snack...or just be good to your kids!  Email me at krsorenson6@gmail.com or call/text 507-269-1855 and we can arrange a transfer of goods :).

Okay...so now let's go back to the Pasta Feed:  Thank you so much to the Gathje Family for hosting this event on Wednesday.  Beautiful weather to eat pasta and hang out in the backyard!  Thank you also to those who brought food for this event:  Melissa Brandt, Kelly Turner, Marianne Couser, Michele Bleskan, Katherine Moore, Nancy Werning, Anne Colby, Kari Grafstrom, Anja Roden, Megan Pfrimmer, Erin Truesdale, Susan Poppen, Kate Mallmann, Janis Evers.

Upcoming Pasta Feeds:
Next week Friday:  No official pasta feed due to Homecoming Parade
September 28:  Noodles South
October 7:  http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0b45aaac2aa6f49-mayo

So that brings us to the Meet today...where to start?  Start with rain...some periods in the middle where we thought we might just get away with getting the whole meet in...but reality rumbled in about 5:00, in the middle of the Girls JV race.  After a few minutes of hoping it would be just a postponement, the racers and families were soon told that the meet was cancelled.  An unfortunate and anticlimactic ending but really nothing to be done...can't control the weather!

So a huge thank you goes out to so many people who were there to support the meet!  Here are the volunteers that signed up and came out to help:  Kenna Atherton, Michele Bleskan, Ace and Ellen Browning, Greg and Marianne Couser, Angela Cramer, Laura and Paul Ehling, Dawn Elfstrand, Janis Evers, Jaime and Shelby Gathje, Randy Goss, Bart and Kari Grafstrom, Ellen Hamernik, Bruce and Cindy Hansel, Leah and Mike Holmes, Mani Howell, Kris Ihrke, Tonya Johnston, John and Marybeth Kasperski, Kay Kushwaha, Laura Lenz, Thomas Le-Rademacher, Kate and Steve Mallmann, Hilal Maradit Kremers, Katherine Moore, Cathy Nagler, Megan Pfrimmer, Joel and Susan Poppen, DuRanda Rinden, Anja and Robert Roden, Beth Sarkaria, DeAnna Schleusner, Steve Sine, Mary Sirian Peterson, Dawn Swanson, Lynn Swensen, Michelle Taylor, Erin Truesdale, Kelly Turner, Memy Vile, Aaron, Haley, and Dwight Vold, Nancy Werning, Elizabeth Yan.  Special thanks to John Trolander, Matt Wittman, John Resman, Roger Modry, John Spee, Brett's dad, Chad Korte, Connor Lang, Dave Brandt, Jeff Whitney and Athletic Trainers Chad and Maureen.

A very special shout-out to those who stayed until the bitter end getting the tents down and the trailers packed up...including our three coaches...

Still one Mayo Invite t-shirt left!  It's an XL...contact Brett if you would like it...I bet he'd sell it to you for $10 instead of $12 :)

If you have Course Maps or Volunteer T-Shirts, please bring them to the Activities Office.

Just one more thing...Homecoming week coming up will have some additional fun activities to look forward to.  I will post more if I get any information from the captains...but Homecoming activities usually include an evening of decorating for the float, breakfast before school on Friday at a restaurant, Homecoming parade.  Also, parents are welcome to attend Coronation on Friday afternoon at 1:00.

Thanks, Everybody!!

Mayo Invite and Pasta Feed

Hey everyone!
We are getting closer now...only 2 days away!
Would love to get some more volunteers...really down numbers this year so please think about helping us out!  Remember...I WILL NOT SCHEDULE YOU DURING YOUR RUNNER's RACE!  None of the jobs take skill, only willingness to help!
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/19EVOOhHbJMDb_f_L0DDPqo-T30HdnI-kdDtb1aytQr8/viewform

Also...Shelby is asking for more help with the pasta feed...can you help provide food?  Sign up here:
http://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0b45aaac2aa6f49-mayo

Bus is leaving MHS at 2:15 on Thursday for Eastwood.  This is an effort to minimize the amount of cars that are parked there since parking is limited.  Please encourage your runner to ride the bus!  Note that there is no bus back to MHS...but should be plenty of people able to provide transportation that direction!

It is supposed to be warm and possibly rainy on Thursday so prepare for any weather.  At some point along the way here, you will arrive at a meet wearing short sleeves and leave wishing you had your sweatshirt with you.  That day might be this week...

Mayo Invitational T-Shirts will be for sale for $12/each at the meet.  If your runner wants one, don't wait to pick one up!  They always sell out!

More tomorrow, I'm sure!

Mayo Invitational Sign Up

Hello, Cross Country Families!

Thank you so much to those of you who have already signed up to help out at the Invitational on Thursday...however...I need approximately 50 more people to sign up!

This event is such a fun time.  I have talked to more than one former Cross Country parent recently who has told me that they come back to the Invite even though they don't have a runner in it anymore!

I am really hoping to work on the schedule this weekend...so it would be great to know if you can help!
Please sign up by Saturday at 2:00 if at all possible!
I will continue to beg until we get enough help...

Sign up here!

Faribault Tips and Tricks

Hey there!
Wanted to post this separately since it is a completely different topic...

Faribault!  The Faribault meet is at the Fairgrounds in Faribault.  The best way to get in is from the east side of the fairgrounds.  In the past, they charged $1 for parking if you came in from the west, however I haven't come that way in so long that I'm not sure they are still doing that.  Again, if you need directions, go to Big9.org.  There will be a link from the meet information listed there.

Very important information that I forgot to mention last week-applies to ALL MEETS:  Stop at a Kwik Trip BEFORE you get to the meet!  The facilities are usually portapotties and have very long lines of runners before the meets so it is best not to arrive at a meet thinking that you are going to use the bathroom!  So best tip is to be sure to leave enough time to make your bathroom stop before arriving at the race site.

Faribault usually involves a lot of running by the fans to see the runners while they are racing.  Brett's note mentions that the course has changed...when I look at it, I can't tell too much about the details of the change-but I can see that it will still involve quite a bit of back and forth across a lot of space to catch the runners along the course!

Note that the C races are a different distance than the other races so be sure to accommodate for that when you are picking your spot on the course to watch!

Wear your running shoes...and your Mayo Green and Gold!  Go Spartan Runners!

Also...a shout out to Kate Mallmann for hosting the Pasta Feed tonight!  Thanks also to Marianne Couser, Megan Pfrimmer, Susan and Joel Poppen, Laura Lenz, Melissa Brandt, Anja Roden, Michele Bleskan, Tara Maier, Erin Truesdale, Nancy Werning, Kelly Turner, Leah Holmes, Katherine Williamson, and Mary Hemenway for supporting the Pasta Feed through donations and help!

Photographer Needed and Med City Half Marathon Volunteers and Thank you!

Hello, All!
Here is a note from Marianne Couser:

Pasta Feeds

Happy Back-to-School Day!
Friday seems a long time ago...but what a beautiful day it was to watch a XC meet (a little hot to run one...)!  I just love the Rosemount course.  It feels so festive and "eventful!"  It is also easy to see the runners from lots of places.  It was great to see lots of Mayo parents out there!

Hopefully you have had an opportunity to mark on your calendar all of the XC meets for the season.  If not, you can get the information from Brett's packet .  Go to the Schedule/Guide link.  You can also find this information at Big9.

Once you have the meets on your calendar, go back to the beginning and put "Pasta Feed" on the calendar the day before each meet.  Even if you don't hear about this until the last minute, you can count on a pasta feed the day before each meet.  The captains like to have some of their pasta feeds at Noodles South and the parents and runners like to host some of the pasta feeds at their homes.  The schedule for the year...and the sign up to provide help...is here:  Pasta Feeds 2015.  Looks like this there are a few holes this Thursday so take a look and help out if you can!

Mayo Invite is next week already...and I will need to get moving on that very soon!  Look for a flurry of posts to come soon...but in the meantime, volunteers will be needed starting at about 3:15 so you can think about how that fits into your schedule!

Rosemount Meet

Well...here we go...the race season begins!

We haven't raced at Rosemount for a few years so it is fun to get back there.  It is a fun course to watch because spectators can see the runners in several places without too much effort.  The race has a huge field of runners so it is a great race to be initiated into Cross Country with.  I have some of my favorite photos from past races at this course!

This might be a good time to review Brett's info packet from the beginning of the season.  You can find it here:  http://assets.ngin.com/attachments/document/0080/3435/2015_Cross_Country_Guide.pdf
I won't repeat the things he tells you here but there are definitely some pieces that will be helpful to read through...even if you did it earlier in the season!

Hopefully you have already taken a look at directions and how long it will take to get there.  Allow just over an hour to drive but be sure to allow another 10 minutes to get to the course.  Parking at Cross Country meets is always a little walk from the course so never arrive at the last moment hoping to see the start of the race!  You will likely miss the start if you do.

Directions can be found at the Big 9 website (www.big9.org).  If you don't already have that site bookmarked, now is a good time to do that.  You can also sign up to get notifications if anything changes on this site.  This is a good idea because if a meet is cancelled for some reason (weather), the notification you get from this site is about as quick as you can get this information.  You will be an informed parent and all of your friends will marvel at your knowledge!
Here is the map to Rosemount but it probably won't do you much good in this form. Rosemount Map
Go to Big 9 or even Google Maps for a version that isn't static.

Well this is a long enough post for one day!  Hope to see you tomorrow!  Be sure to wear Mayo Spartans Green so that we can identify each other!

Last call for Subway (for Rosemount) and Coolers Needed!

Hi everyone!
I did get a few more orders and checks in today so following up with a last call.

Noon on Tuesday will be the deadline for submissions that will include Rosemount on Friday.  This is also the last opportunity to change anything or pull an order for Rosemount if plans have changed.  Thanks to everyone for getting checks to me!

Okay...I'm very late in making this request.  I am blaming it on my effort to enjoy every last moment with my kids who are heading off to college...
Each year I have been able to borrow large wheeled coolers to transport the sub sandwiches to each meet.  Usually I collect the coolers at the beginning of the season and get them back to you at the end of the season.  If you are able to lend your cooler, the best scenario will be to send it to practice Tuesday so that I can get them to Subway on Wednesday when I drop off orders.  If you have a cooler that you are willing to lend for the season for this purpose, please shoot me a text or call me at 507-269-1855 so that I know what to expect.  I am looking for 4-6 coolers total.

Thanks, everyone!

Please get your Subway orders in to me by the end of the weekend at the latest (fill out the form)!  Money to me ASAP.  I will order the sandwiches on Wednesday so will need money by Tuesday if you are hoping for a sandwich for Rosemount.  Drop it off at my house 1156 Audaz Ln SW.
Subway Order Form

Sorry about the confusing messages.

This might be a good time for me to also promote membership in the Booster Club and the PTSA.  Both groups provide opportunities to add to your Mayo High School experience.

The Booster Club raises money through Spiritwear, Concessions, Membership and Donations and gives all of the money back to Mayo High School groups who request funds for their projects and plans.  More information about the groups Booster Club has donated to is available on their webpage on the MHS website under Resources.  Electronic Membership form is here:  Booster Club Membership and includes a coupon for 15% off of a spiritwear purchase.

The PTSA is a parent group with the purpose of education and advocacy.  It also provides a nice opportunity to make connections with other MHS parents as well as a monthly opportunity to hear updates from the principal.  Electonic Membership form is here:  PTSA Membership

Have a great weekend!

Time Trial and Subway Orders

It was great to meet so many new parents today at the Time Trial!  Thanks to everyone for coming out for the first big event of the season!  Since you are all signed up for the Remind Me texts, you already know that Brett has posted the results on the XC webpage.

I will be working in the Mayo High School Activities Office on Friday so if anyone wants to drop off their Subway check, I will be there from 7:15-3:45.  Otherwise, you can still mail it.  I will work on the orders next weekend so please get it to me by Friday, September 4.  It is much easier to do them all at once :)

Hopefully you have the Rosemount meet on your calendar.  I am excited to be back at Rosemount after a few years hiatus.  It is a fun meet to watch-lots of good places on the course to see the kids.  And a little exercise for us as well...

Pasta and Pancakes

Hi there!
The captains would like me to share the sign up for Pasta Feeds for the year.
If anyone is interested in hosting a pasta feed, this is the place to sign up!
We are also hoping for many helpers to support the pasta feeds with pasta, salad, bread, and desserts.   Check the sign ups to help in this way as well.
Here is the link!  Pasta Feed Sign Up

Also a quick reminder to fill out your Subway form and turn in the money either to me on Thursday morning at the Time Trial or by mailing it to 1156 Audaz Ln SW  Rochester, MN  55902.  Here is the link to the Subway Form:  Subway Order Form

Hope to see as many of you as possible out there on Thursday morning-the Time Trial is a great opportunity to kick off the season!  If your runner tells you not to come...that none of the parents do...don't listen to them!  This is our first opportunity to support our runners this season and is a fun morning of watching the kids do their thing!

Also, one last thing...please share this blog with any new family that you know and encourage them to sign up!   mayorunning.blogspot.com will get them to the page.

See you soon!
Kristin

Brainwaves-NeuroEase Night

Below is an email that I received with a very unique opportunity!  I hope that your student might be available and/or interested!  I have seen Dr. Sood speak and he is very good!  It is super-cool that this opportunity is available for our kids :)

Hello All,

I am writing as our group, Brainwaves – a neuroscience outreach group based at Mayo Medical School and Mayo Graduate School, has been collaborating with the Mayo Clinic’s world expert on stress, Dr. Amit Sood MD, to create an interactive, stress management talk geared for high school students rooted in the concept of neuroplasticity. Attached is a description of the event that has been approved by the school district as well as some information about our group.

Last year Brainwaves hosted a large event for high school students titled “Brain Awareness Week Event”. This event was quite successful and received a significant amount of positive feedback. We are hoping to have an equally as exciting and successful event this year.

We are planning for this event to be held on April 23rd from6-8 p.m. in the subway level of the Mayo Building at the Mayo Clinic’s downtown campus.  Dr. Sood’s talk will be held in Judd Auditorium, with activities in the Hage Atrium and Patient Cafeteria to follow.

We are excited to work together to make this a successful event for all parties. Please feel free to contact me or either of the Brainwaves co-directors, who are cc’d on this email, with any questions, comments or concerns. We look forward to hearing from you. Have a great day!

Hi, all,

The Cousers are hosting a very informal Spartan Snowman Run on Saturday at 10:30 starting from our house.  There will be two teams running to get items to decorate a snowman.  It's for all ages and abilities with hot chocolate afterwards, as supplies last.

If you want more information about this or weekend runs that will continue throughout track season, please email me at greg@productivementality.com .  (I can get you on my email list if you're not already on it.)

Links to the Mayo High School track pages can be found at the Friends of Mayo Running website at http://www.mayorunning.com .  Thanks and see you all soon!
